How to Create a Restaurant Food Menu in WordPress

The restaurant industry has always been about creating memorable experiences, but the digital evolution has brought new dimensions to how businesses interact with their customers. From reservation systems to online reviews, WordPress has played a significant role in helping restaurants adapt to the digital age.

When someone visits a restaurant’s website, one of the first things they often look for is the menu. A well-presented menu not only showcases the restaurant’s offerings but also sets expectations for quality and ambiance.

In this article, we’ll demonstrate how to use Tableberg to create a restaurant food menu, breaking the process into simple, actionable steps. Let’s start.

Step 1: Install and Activate Tableberg

Start by logging in to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to the Plugins > Add New section. In the search bar, type “Tableberg” and locate the plugin in the results. Proceed by clicking on Install Now, and once the installation is complete, click Activate to enable the plugin on your site.

Step 2: Create a New Table

Go to the page or post where you want to insert the table. Open the block editor, click the Add Block (+) button, and search for “Tableberg.”  Select the Tableberg block to kickstart your table creation.

Add Tableberg

Put the exact number of rows and columns you need for your menu. Set the numbers and then hit “Create”.

Create Table

Select the table you created, then go to the Block Settings panel on the right. In the Header/Footer Settings, you can set the first row as the header or the last as the footer or simply add new ones. Customize these rows with relevant labels. Now, customize your header and footers with relevant labels.

Step 4: Add and Customize Content

Once you’re done with the headings, it’s time to populate every cell. To add content, click on the specific cell, search for your desired block using the block inserter, and click on it once found.

If you have plain texts to put in any cell, simply type them.

Add Text

Now, for inputs like images, ratings, call-to-actions, and more, you’ll need to use the block inserter. For our table, we’ve utilized the Image Block, Star Rating Block, and Button Block.  For images, once you select the block, you can either upload a photo or grab one from the media library. The Star Rating Block will allow you to set custom ratings along with texts, which can be further customized from the block settings panel on the right side of your dashboard. For the buttons, you need to put the button texts on the button block and then adjust its size, position, colors, and other settings from the block settings panel. Whatever block you want to customize, just select that block, move to the Block Settings Panel on the right side, and customize using the settings from the dropdown.

Add Content and customize

Step 5: Set Alignments

To adjust the alignment of any content, click on the specific cell to activate it. Then, use the alignment toolbar above the cell to choose between left, center, or right alignment. Repeat this process for all cells as needed.

Step 6: Style the Table

Before finalizing the table, you can customize every detail of its appearance for a perfect look. For the overall table, start by selecting it and then navigate to the Block Settings panel on the right side. From the Styles tab, you can adjust the header and footer background colors, set unique colors for specific cells, rows, or columns, and even apply alternating colors for even and odd rows.

From the dropdown, go to the Dimensions settings to adjust cell padding, spacing, and block spacing for a better layout.

If you go further down, you’ll find the settings for borders, global font size, and style. Notable features include options to show only row or column borders or to hide borders inside or outside the table. All these options will come in handy to create the perfect restaurant menu suited to your needs.
